RENEWAL OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN
GLOBAL AFFAIRS CANADA AND INFRASTRUCTURE ASIA ON INFRASTRUCTURE COLLABORATION
1. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and Infrastructure Asia (InfraAsia) signed a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) to extend their collaboration in infrastructure development in Southeast Asia by a further two years. The signing was witnessed by The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade of Canada and Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Finance and National Development of Singapore.
2. Besides extending the collaboration period, the areas of collaboration between GAC and InfraAsia have also been expanded from the original MOU signed two years ago. The enhanced scope harnesses the expertise of Canadian infrastructure companies to enable more quality infrastructure projects and encourages Canadian funds to invest in the region through Singapore, thus augmenting the financing possibilities of infrastructure development in the region.
3. H.E. Lynn McDonald, Canada’s High Commissioner to Singapore, said, “Canada greatly values the productive partnership with InfraAsia that has developed over the past two years. The signing of this renewed MOU reaffirms our commitment to working together and its expanded scope provides a framework for even greater collaboration. We look forward to further developing our strategic partnership with InfraAsia, as we work together to provide innovative and sustainable solutions to infrastructure needs throughout the region.”
4. Mr Seth Tan, Infrastructure Asia’s Executive Director, said, “The collaboration with GAC has been very good in the past two years. GAC played an active role in facilitating Canadian companies to contribute to InfraAsia’s initiatives and events, such as the Asia Infrastructure Forum in 2019 and the Clean Technology for Infrastructure Showcase in 2020. We have also collaborated on project-targeted capacity building sessions in the region. We look forward to a closer collaboration with GAC going forward especially in the areas of sustainability and infrastructure financing.”

About Global Affairs Canada
Global Affairs Canada (GAC) defines, shapes and advances Canada’s interests and values in a complex global environment. It manages diplomatic relations, promotes international trade and provides consular support. In addition, GAC leads international development, humanitarian, and peace and security assistance efforts. It also contributes to national security and the development of international law.
About Infrastructure Asia
Infrastructure Asia (InfraAsia) aims to support Asia’s social and economic growth through infrastructure development. InfraAsia was established by Enterprise Singapore and Monetary Authority of Singapore to support infrastructure financing and development in the region. It does so through early project scoping, best practice sharing and brokering, harnessing Singapore’s best-in-class infrastructure ecosystem (international developers, engineering and professional services, along with financial institutions and multilateral development entities). It also works with global players in the regional infrastructure ecosystem and leverages the collective capabilities and networks of various government agencies to catalyse more trade and investments into infrastructure in the region.
